The first trailer for the movie adaptation of Children of Blood and Bone has been released, giving fans a look at the star-studded cast and the magical world of Orïsha. The film is based on the popular young adult fantasy novel by Nigerian-American author Tomi Adeyemi. The story follows Zélie Adebola, a young girl who sets out on a dangerous journey to restore magic to her kingdom after a cruel king destroys it. The movie features well-known actors such as Cynthia Erivo, Damson Idris, Lashana Lynch, and Viola Davis. The screenplay was co-written by Adeyemi and Gina Prince-Bythewood, who also directed the historical drama The Woman King. The movie is scheduled to be released in January 2027, but there has already been some drama behind the scenes. Adeyemi has distanced herself from the project and said she will not promote the film.

The trailer opens with Lashana Lynch as Jumoke, Zélie's mother, speaking to a young Zélie in the desert. She tells her daughter not to be afraid and explains that Orïsha was once a land full of magic. The trailer shows beautiful scenes of forests, pink lakes, and village life. Jumoke tells Zélie that she was born with a special gift, and we see her create fire with her hands. However, the peace does not last. Jumoke explains that people who were afraid of magic took it away, and the trailer shows an army attacking the village and taking Jumoke away.

As Zélie grows older, she is trained by Lekan, played by Viola Davis, who believes Zélie can bring magic back to Orïsha. The trailer also introduces Damson Idris as Prince Inan and Cynthia Erivo as Admiral Kaea. Other stars in the cast include Idris Elba, Ayra Starr, Amandla Stenberg, and Bukky Bakray. Despite the excitement around the film, Tomi Adeyemi has made it clear she is not involved with the movie anymore. She posted on social media that she will not talk about the adaptation and even sent a message to Amandla Stenberg, who plays Princess Amari, telling her not to use her name in interviews.
