Norwich Turns Into Crime Scene for New Detective Drama Filming

Norwich city centre has become the backdrop for the latest filming of the detective drama series Strike, which is based on the novels by JK Rowling, writing as Robert Galbraith. The show stars Holliday Grainger as Robin Ellacott and Tom Burke as Cormoran Strike, and both actors have been spotted in the city wearing brown coats while filming scenes for the seventh installment, The Running Grave. The production has brought a crew of up to 70 people to Norwich, giving locals a chance to catch a glimpse of the action as the team works on bringing the story to life.

Filming for The Running Grave began in Cromer last week and has now moved to various locations in Norwich, including the market and Royal Arcade. The story follows Robin Ellacott as she goes undercover to investigate a religious cult called the Universal Humanitarian Church, which has recruited a character named Will and taken his trust fund. Producer Alex Rendall shared that he has enjoyed spending time in Norwich, saying he is a big fan of Norfolk and has fond memories of summer holidays in the area. He explained that while most of the filming will take place in and around London, the crew is in Norfolk for eight days to shoot exterior scenes that are important to the story.

The Strike series first aired in 2017 with The Cuckoo's Calling, based on the first book published in 2013. Since then, it has gained a loyal following for its gripping detective stories and strong performances by the lead actors. In The Running Grave, Robin infiltrates the cult's headquarters to gather evidence and investigate allegations of mistreatment. The filming in Norwich has attracted attention from locals, who have seen the cast and crew working in public spaces. Rendall mentioned that filming would continue throughout the day until darkness, making use of the city's unique locations. The new installment of Strike is expected to be released by the end of the year, giving fans something to look forward to as the series continues to explore complex mysteries and intriguing characters.
