Giant Sculptures Buzz at Joe Rush's Extinction-Themed Art Show

Joe Rush is a well-known artist from London who has been creating large sculptures for the Glastonbury Festival for many years. This year, the festival is taking a break to let the land rest, so Joe is using this time to hold an exhibition of his work in Marylebone. The main theme of his exhibition is extinction and the loss of biodiversity, which means he wants people to think about how many animals and plants are disappearing from the world. Joe hopes his art will make people care more about protecting nature and the environment.

Joe first went to Glastonbury in 1985, driving a truck he had turned into a giant skull. Since then, he has made many famous installations at the festival using recycled materials. One of his most popular works is Carhenge, a copy of Stonehenge made from old cars. He also built Glastonbury-on-Sea, a 60-foot pier. Joe likes to use things that other people throw away, like engines, car parts, and metal, to make his sculptures. He believes that using old materials is good for the planet and can inspire others to be creative.

At his new exhibition, visitors can see dozens of Joe's latest pieces. There is a giant bee made from three engines, which is the main piece of the show. There is also a dinosaur fossil made from hammers, knives, and spanners, a snake made from electrical wires and a bicycle chain, and a bull's nostrils made from a vintage gas mask. Joe has also created sculptures of birds, bees, butterflies, horses, and dogs. One special piece shows a boy in a garden of metal flowers, inspired by his own son. Joe says his art is like a prayer for the survival of animals and insects. Emily Eavis, who helps organize Glastonbury, said that Joe's sculptures have inspired many festival-goers over the years. The exhibition is being held at the Bomb Factory Art Foundation gallery from March 13 to March 29. The gallery is focusing on art that uses recycled materials and encourages people to work together to help the environment.
