The Wanted's Max George 'wrote will from hospital'

Max George, a member of the popular band The Wanted, recently opened up about a very serious health scare he experienced. He revealed that he wrote his will while lying in a hospital bed before undergoing surgery for a heart condition. At 36 years old, Max felt a deep sense of fear, believing that he might not survive the ordeal. In a moment of panic, he took out his phone and began to type out instructions on what he wanted to happen to his belongings if he did not make it through the surgery. This was a significant and emotional moment for him. Max, who hails from Manchester, underwent the operation just before Christmas, during which doctors fitted him with a pacemaker to help regulate his heartbeats. He was discharged from the hospital on December 23, just in time for the holiday. Prior to the surgery, Max had been diagnosed with a condition known as 'a 2:1 block in my heart', which is related to issues with the electrical signals that control the heart's rhythm. After the surgery, he was overjoyed to see his girlfriend, Maisie Smith, who was the first person he laid eyes on when he woke up. Their reunion was a touching moment, especially after such a challenging experience. In a heartfelt interview, Max shared his worries about his health and the impact it could have on his loved ones. He expressed how the news of his heart condition made him reflect on his responsibilities. He said, 'When you get told that, you really realise what your responsibilities are. ' He thought about his partner, Maisie, his family, and his two young nephews, which made the situation feel even more serious. Max pinpointed December 13 as the most difficult day of his journey, as he experienced a significant drop in both his blood pressure and heart rate. He described that night as a terrifying experience, saying, 'It was quite close that night, it really felt like my neck was closing up and that's when the sort of panic really kicked in. ' However, when he learned that his surgery was scheduled for December 18, he felt a wave of relief and excitement. The surgery lasted around three hours, and when he woke up, he was greeted by the familiar face of his girlfriend, which brought him immense comfort. He recalled, 'The first face I saw was Maisie's and I remember that being really nice - like that was the first time I actually felt like a real person again, and I had a heart. ' Max has been keeping his fans updated on his recovery through social media, and he affectionately referred to his new pacemaker as his 'little friend' in an Instagram post. He expressed his gratitude, stating that it was 'the best Christmas present I could've ever wished for. ' He also mentioned that the pacemaker was placed under a tattoo he has in memory of his late bandmate, Tom Parker, which gave him a sense of comfort knowing it was being looked after. Max rose to fame in the early 2010s alongside his bandmates Siva Kaneswaran, Nathan Sykes, Jay McGuiness, and Tom Parker. The Wanted announced a hiatus in 2014, but in 2022, Max and Siva reunited as a duo to perform together again. Additionally, Max participated in the popular dance competition Strictly Come Dancing in 2020, where he first met his current partner, Maisie. Tragically, his bandmate Tom Parker passed away in March 2022, which was a heartbreaking loss for Max and the entire band.
