Dive Into Cornwall's Biggest Underwater Garden Revival Ever!

The Mor Nature project is set to become the largest seagrass restoration effort ever attempted in the United Kingdom. This ambitious plan, based in Cornwall, aims to restore ten hectares of seagrass meadow in Falmouth Bay over the next three years. Seagrass meadows are underwater fields of long, green plants that are vital for the health of the ocean. They provide shelter and food for many marine animals, help clean the water, and protect the coastline from erosion. The project is being led by the Cornwall Wildlife Trust in partnership with the Ocean Conservation Trust, and it has received £1. 8 million in funding.

The Mor Nature initiative is not just about planting seagrass. It also focuses on rebuilding native oyster populations and creating a thriving underwater ecosystem. Oysters used to be common in Cornwall's waters, and they played a big role in supporting wildlife and local fisheries. To protect the new seagrass meadows, the team is using special marker buoys and asking boaters to avoid anchoring in sensitive areas. They are also working with fishers and community members to set up new oyster nurseries in the Helford. The restored habitats will support a wide range of marine life, such as seahorses, spider crabs, cuttlefish, bass, and sharks.
