From CBBC Star to Honorary Doctorate: Mia McKenna-Bruce Shines Bright!

Mia McKenna-Bruce, a well-known actress and former student of Maidstone Grammar School for Girls, is set to receive an honorary doctorate from Canterbury Christ Church University. This special award is being given to her in recognition of her outstanding contributions to acting and for helping to bring attention to Kent on a national level. Mia began her acting career as a child, starring in the popular CBBC series Tracy Beaker Returns and its spin-off, The Dumping Ground. Over the years, she has earned several prestigious awards, including the BAFTA Rising Star Award and the British Independent Film Award for Best Lead Performance. These achievements highlight her talent and dedication to her craft. The university will present her with the honorary doctorate during a ceremony scheduled for later in September.

In addition to her early roles, Mia has continued to build her career with impressive performances. She recently starred as Lady Eileen 'Bundle' Brent in Agatha Christie's Seven Dials, a show available on Netflix. Her success in both television and film has made her a role model for aspiring actors, especially those from Kent. Judith Armitt is another individual who will be recognized at the same ceremony. She previously served as chief executive of Medway Council and Thames Gateway. Judith played a key role in helping Canterbury Christ Church University collaborate with the Universities of Kent and Greenwich to establish the Universities at Medway. She will receive her honorary doctorate for her significant contributions to regional and public service, as well as her support for the university. Professor Claire Ozanne, the vice-chancellor and principal of Canterbury Christ Church University, expressed her excitement about honoring both Mia and Judith. She said that graduation ceremonies are a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the remarkable achievements of these individuals, as well as those of the university's students, and to welcome them into the alumni community.
