Bollywood Drama: Film Union Lifts Ban on Ranveer Singh After Don 3 Fallout

A major Indian film workers' union, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees FWICE, has decided to cancel its call for a boycott against Bollywood star Ranveer Singh. The union had earlier asked its members not to work with Singh after he reportedly left the film Don 3 just weeks before filming was supposed to start overseas. The producers of Don 3 were upset because they had already spent a large amount of money on pre-production, and Singh's sudden exit put the project in trouble.

The decision to withdraw the boycott came after Ranveer Singh sent a legal notice to the union. Although the BBC has not seen the notice, it seems to have made an impact. FWICE president BN Tiwari said that the film industry stands behind Ranveer and that their legal team will respond to his notice. FWICE chief adviser Ashoke Pandit explained that the union changed its mind after several film industry organizations requested it. He also encouraged Ranveer to meet with the union to resolve the issue, saying that they respect his stardom and hope for a positive outcome.

Ranveer Singh is one of the biggest stars in Indian cinema, known for his roles in movies like Padmaavat and Gully Boy. He is famous for his energetic and bold personality. Recently, he starred in Dhurandhar, a successful spy thriller. This is not the first time FWICE has taken action against a star; in the past, they have asked Indian artists not to work with Pakistani performers during times of tension between the two countries. They also issued a similar directive against actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh in 2025. Ranveer himself has faced controversy before, such as when he apologized for imitating a ritual from the film Kantara at a festival. Despite these issues, many in the industry continue to support him, and the hope is that the dispute will be resolved soon.
