In eight of these caves, they found art that is at least 15,000 years old. This is much older than the oldest human evidence found in Ireland before, which was about 10,500 years old. The art includes pictures of animals, lines, and shapes scratched or painted on the walls. Some of the art was made by pressing fingers into soft clay, and it looks like it could have been made by children.

The caves were important for early people because they were warmer than the freezing temperatures outside. People used animal skins and fires to stay comfortable and safe from wild animals.
