Hollywood Ringside: Trainer's Family Cheers 'Giant' Boxing Biopic

Brendan Ingle's family is celebrating the release of a new film that tells the story of his life as a legendary boxing trainer. The movie, called 'Giant,' focuses on the relationship between Ingle and his most famous student, 'Prince' Naseem Hamed, who became a boxing superstar in the 1990s. Ingle, who was originally from Dublin but made his home in Sheffield, trained several world champions during his career, including Hamed, Johnny Nelson, Junior Witter, and Kell Brook. The role of Brendan Ingle in the film is played by Pierce Brosnan, a well-known actor famous for playing James Bond.

Tara Ingle, Brendan's daughter, shared how emotional it was to see her father's story being told on the big screen. She said her father would have been thrilled to know that a Hollywood star was portraying him. Tara described seeing the film's poster on a bus in Sheffield and feeling a mix of pride and sadness, wishing her father could witness the recognition he is now receiving. Brendan Ingle started his gym in an old church hall in Wincobank, Sheffield, where he trained young fighters from an early age. After he retired, his sons Dominic and John took over the gym and continued the family tradition of training champions.

The film 'Giant' is set to have a special screening in Sheffield, attended by Ingle's family, former boxers, and trainers from the Ingle Gym. There will also be a Q&A session with Amir El-Masry, who plays Naseem Hamed, and the film's writer and director, Rowan Athale. The movie's executive producer is Sylvester Stallone, the actor famous for playing Rocky. Tara mentioned that her father was a big fan of the Rocky movies and would always take the family to see them. Director Rowan Athale said he felt a lot of responsibility to accurately tell Ingle's story, especially after meeting so many people at the gym who wanted to share their memories of Brendan. He recalled how emotional it was to watch the film with the Ingle family, seeing how much Brendan meant to them and the community.

The film was also written by psychology professor Geoff Beattie, who trained at the same gym as Naseem Hamed and followed his rise in the boxing world. Tara Ingle said she was pleased with how the movie captured her father's kindness and generosity. She explained that after Brendan passed away, the family received hundreds of letters from people whose lives he had touched. The movie 'Giant' will be released in cinemas soon, and the Ingle family is looking forward to sharing Brendan's story with a wider audience.
