Antony Price: The Rock 'n' Roll Fashion Legend Bids Farewell at 80

Antony Price, a celebrated British fashion designer, has died at the age of 80. Price was known for his bold and sculptural designs, which were worn by music legends like David Bowie, Duran Duran, and Roxy Music, as well as by Queen Camilla. His work was famous for its dramatic shapes and pastel colors, especially the suits featured in Duran Duran's iconic 'Rio' music video. The band paid tribute to Price, calling him a visionary and a witty, intelligent friend. Price's passing comes shortly after he presented his latest collection in London, his first in over thirty years. Born in Keighley, West Yorkshire, in 1945, Antony Price moved to London in the early 1960s to study at the Royal College of Art. After graduating, he began designing menswear at Stirling Copper, where he created the tight, buttoned trousers worn by Mick Jagger during The Rolling Stones' 'Gimme Shelter' tour in 1969. Price launched his own fashion label in 1979 and held his first show a year later, with model Jerry Hall opening the collection. Hall also wore a Price-designed dress for her wedding to Mick Jagger. Throughout his career, Price collaborated with many famous artists, including David Bowie, for whom he designed a jacket for the 'As The World Falls Down' music video in 1986.

Price was known for blending menswear and womenswear, creating body-hugging looks that were both technically impressive and visually striking. The British Fashion Council described him as a true original. In the 1990s, Price designed several outfits for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, including ensembles for her US tour. His career spanned more than five decades, and his final show in London last month was a collaboration with the fashion brand 16Arlington, featuring Lily Allen. Antony Price's influence on fashion and music was significant, and he will be remembered for his creativity, originality, and the lasting impact of his designs.
