Will using Western weapons on Russia help Ukraine change the war?

The decision to allow Ukraine to use Western weapons to hit targets inside Russia is a significant change that will have a major impact on the front line in Ukraine. Previously, Western countries had restricted the use of their weapons to military targets within Ukraine, including Crimea and occupied territories, out of concern that using weapons provided by Nato countries to attack targets across the border would escalate the conflict. However, the recent Russian advance in the north-eastern Kharkiv region led Ukraine's allies to reconsider this policy. Last month, Russia launched a massive ground assault in the region, opening a new front and capturing several villages. This posed a serious threat to Kharkiv, Ukraine's second-largest city, which is just 30km away from the border. The ban on using Western weapons to hit targets beyond Ukraine effectively allowed Russian troops to prepare for their operation in a safe environment. Following growing pressure from Ukraine and other European states, the US agreed to change its policy and allow Ukraine to strike Russia with Western weapons.
