York's Museum Gardens to Rock More Days Despite Noise Complaints!

Futuresound Events Ltd has been given permission to hold more concerts in York's Museum Gardens next year, even though some people are worried about noise. The company wanted to have events on twelve days in 2027, but after a meeting, the council only allowed six extra days. This means there will be concerts on six new days, plus three days that were already planned. The concerts will take place over weekends in June and July.

Some people who live near Museum Gardens are concerned about the noise from these events. Last year, there were eighteen complaints about loud music. One resident, Marabel Clark, said the gardens are too small for such big concerts and compared the noise to a cake overflowing from a small tin. The council's public protection team also said that York's geography makes it easy for sound to travel far, which could disturb more people. However, North Yorkshire Police decided not to object after Futuresound agreed to reduce the number of extra event days.

Supporters of the concerts say they are important for York. The events bring in money and help the city’s economy. Kathryn Blacker, the Chief Executive of York Museums Trust, said the income from the concerts is crucial. She explained that the money helps keep the gardens open and well-maintained for everyone. The concerts also make York more popular and attract tourists. Organisers promised to monitor the events closely, with security staff and stewards on site, and to limit sound checks to certain hours. They said they want the concerts to be enjoyable for everyone and not cause too many problems for people living nearby.
