HebCelt Festival Strikes Gold with £4.4M Boost and Star-Studded Lineup!

The HebCelt music festival, held annually in Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis, has become a major event for both music lovers and the local community. According to a recent report, this year's festival generated an impressive £4. 4 million for the island's economy. Over four days in July, more than 18,500 people traveled to Lewis to enjoy performances from well-known artists such as Lulu, Skerryvore, and Eddi Reader. The festival not only brought in more money than last year—about £400,000 more—but also encouraged visitors to stay longer, with the average stay being 7. 8 days. Each visitor spent around £1,025 during their trip, supporting local hotels, restaurants, and shops.

Iain Macphail, the festival's chairman, emphasized that the success of HebCelt is about more than just financial gains. He pointed out that the festival creates jobs for local residents, offers opportunities for skills training, and builds strong partnerships with local suppliers. This year, 17,218 people bought tickets to attend the festival, which is nearly equal to the population of Stornoway itself. When the festival is in town, the number of people in Stornoway almost doubles, making it a lively and bustling place.

One of the highlights of this year's festival was its focus on female talent. About 70% of the artists performing were women, including local musicians Josie Duncan and Isla Scott. The festival has been running for 28 years and has grown into a key part of the island's culture. It brings people together to celebrate music, supports the local economy, and gives both visitors and residents a chance to enjoy world-class performances.
