Bath's Fashion Museum Scores £1.7M Boost for Stylish New Home!
A new fashion museum is set to open in Bath, thanks to a major funding boost from the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority. Bath & North East Somerset Council has received a grant of £1. 745 million to help move the Fashion Museum to a new home in the Old Post Office, a historic building in the city center. This project is part of a larger plan to improve the Milsom Quarter, which will include better public spaces, smoother traffic, and more housing for local residents.
The leader of the council, Kevin Guy, explained that the new museum will not only celebrate the history of fashion but also bring more investment and jobs to the region. He believes the museum will make Bath an even more attractive place for tourists and will help the local economy grow. The museum will be located in a new public square, right in front of the Old Post Office and near St Michael's Church, making it a central spot for both locals and visitors.
The original Bath Fashion Museum closed in 2022 after nearly 60 years in the Assembly Rooms, which were returned to the National Trust. Since then, the museum's collection of 100,000 items, covering 400 years of fashion history, has been stored in a glove factory in Wiltshire. Helen Godwin, the Mayor of the West of England, said she was impressed by the collection and is excited for it to be displayed in the new museum. Construction is expected to begin in 2027, with the museum aiming to open its doors by December 2030. The new museum is seen as a valuable addition to Bath's cultural scene and is expected to attract both locals and tourists for years to come.
