Kainos Sparks AI Boom with 350 New High-Paying Tech Jobs in NI

Kainos, the largest software company in Northern Ireland, has announced plans to create 341 new jobs over the next three years. This major hiring effort comes as the company sees more and more customers interested in artificial intelligence, or AI. Out of the 341 new positions, 309 will be based in Belfast and 32 in Londonderry. Kainos is investing nearly £20 million to make these new jobs possible, and the average salary for these roles will be £58,000. The new jobs will cover a wide range of areas, including software engineering, consulting, AI, and data science. Interestingly, 200 of these jobs are set aside for recent graduates, giving young people a great opportunity to start their careers. With these new hires, Kainos will have a total of 3,500 employees.

Brendan Mooney, the chief executive of Kainos, said that this investment shows how big companies are choosing to grow their teams in cities like Belfast and Derry. He explained that AI is very important for the company, but he does not believe it will replace people. Instead, he thinks AI helps employees do their work faster and better, which is good for customers. Mooney said, 'AI for us is an enabling technology rather than a replacement technology. Kainos has seen its income from AI and data-related projects grow by 11 percent in the last year, reaching almost £46 million. These projects now make up about 20 percent of the company's digital services revenue. The company also reported strong overall results, with sales rising 17 percent to £431 million and pre-tax profits up 2 percent to £67 million. Economy Minister Caoimhe Archibald said the new jobs are a 'strong vote of confidence' in Northern Ireland's technology sector and the skilled people who work there. She believes AI can help create more high-value jobs in the future. Kieran Donoghue, the chief executive of Invest NI, said his organization will contribute £1. 5 million to support the new jobs. He said it is important that Kainos, a company based in Northern Ireland but working around the world, is choosing to invest in its home country. Donoghue also said that while AI might change some jobs, it can also create new ones. He explained that companies are helping their workers learn new skills so they can do even more valuable work.
