Battery Blunder Sparks Fiery Bin Lorry Blaze in Lincoln Street!

Rachel Stamp, who manages waste partnerships and projects for the council, said that batteries are considered hazardous waste. She explained that batteries can leak dangerous chemicals, start fires, or even explode if they are crushed or compacted with other rubbish.

There have been several fires in bin lorries and at recycling centres across the county in recent years, all caused by batteries being thrown away in the wrong way. Most people do the right thing and take their batteries and electrical waste to recycling centres, but it only takes one battery in a compactor to start a fire. The council is reminding everyone to recycle batteries properly to keep people safe and prevent more fires.
