Currently, ITV Studios, the company that makes Emmerdale, has permission from Leeds City Council to use the Harewood site until 2027. After that, they would have to return the land to its original state unless they get new permission. They say that the set is used for more than 260 episodes each year and that it is designed to look and feel like a real rural village. Some indoor scenes, like those inside The Woolpack, are filmed at a studio on Kirkstall Road. The current planning permission will expire on June 3, 2027, and if the council does not approve the new request, the set will have to be taken down within six months.
