Aberdeen's Walls Come Alive: Nuart Festival Paints the Town Bright!

Aberdeen is once again bursting with color as the Nuart Festival returns to the city. This popular street art festival brings together artists from around the world to create stunning murals and smaller artworks on buildings throughout the city center. The festival began on Wednesday evening and will continue until Sunday, giving residents and visitors plenty of time to explore the new creations. People can join guided walking tours to learn about the artists and their work, or they can use a map to find the murals on their own.

This year, 13 artists are participating in the festival, painting both large, eye-catching murals and smaller, more detailed pieces. Some of the new art can be found on the side of Chapel Street car park and at North East Scotland College on Gallowgate. One of the most exciting locations is the historic Bon Accord baths, which have been closed since 2008. For the first time, Nuart Aberdeen is featuring an indoor artwork, giving people a chance to see inside the baths again. Many murals from previous years are still visible around the city, making Aberdeen a living gallery of street art.

The festival was started by British artist and curator Martyn Reed in Stavanger, Norway, in 2001. Nuart came to Aberdeen in 2017 and quickly became a hit, attracting visitors and art lovers. Even during the Covid pandemic, when the festival had to be canceled, the murals remained as a reminder of the city's creative spirit. This year, students from Robert Gordon University are helping to promote the festival by recreating some of the famous murals. They hope their work will inspire others to get involved and celebrate the return of Nuart Aberdeen. With good weather expected, the city is ready to welcome everyone to enjoy the art and the lively atmosphere.
