Rochester Cathedral is preparing to host a unique lightshow in 2025, focusing on the fascinating theme of time. The event, created by the artistic group Luxmuralis, will run from Tuesday to Saturday and marks the fifth time the cathedral has welcomed this creative collaboration. Visitors will experience a series of light installations projected onto the cathedral's interior walls, each designed to help people think about how our understanding of time has changed throughout history.

According to the cathedral, the show will explore humanity's evolving relationship with time, starting from ancient periods and moving through to modern scientific ideas like relativity. The inspiration for the show comes from HG Wells' famous novel 'The Time Machine,' which imagines traveling through different eras. Each light projection will tell a dramatic story, taking visitors on a journey from the present day all the way back to the origins of our planet. The installations will use powerful lights, sounds, and storytelling to create an immersive experience that is both educational and entertaining.

Peter Walker, the artistic director of Luxmuralis, says the show is more than just something to watch; it's an experience to feel and explore. The lightshow will transform the cathedral, making visitors feel as if they are moving through time itself. Luxmuralis has previously created light installations at famous locations such as St Paul's Cathedral, the Tower of London, and Westminster Abbey, as well as in the United States and Germany. Last year's show featured images like dragons and the moon, while this year's event will focus on the concept of time.
