Walsall Rocks May with a Month-Long Music Revival Bash!

Walsall is getting ready for a month full of music this May, as nearly 30 musicians and music lovers come together to revive the town's music scene. The event, called Walsall Music May-hem, will take place at several venues across the town, including The Wheatsheaf, The Victoria, and The Fountain Inn. The idea for this series of events came from conversations about how the pandemic and the rising cost of living have made things tough for people in Walsall. The closure of the Oak Inn pub in January, which used to host open mic nights and live bands, was a big loss for the local music community. The organizers said that when the Oak Inn closed, it felt like a sign of how hard things had become for music in Walsall. At the same time, a survey named Walsall the most deprived town in the UK, which made the group want to take action. They decided to organize these music events to bring people together and show that Walsall still has a strong and creative community. The group includes regular performers from Walsall, open mic hosts, rehearsal room owners, music teachers, and even some bands from the past who are reuniting for the occasion. One spokesperson explained that before the pandemic, Walsall had more than twice as many live music venues and a much bigger community of music fans. Now, with the cost of living going up and the effects of the pandemic still being felt, it's been harder for music to thrive. The closure of the Oak Inn showed just how much grassroots music scenes are at risk because of these challenges. But instead of giving up, the group is working together to build a better future for music in Walsall. They said they can't wait for the government to fix things, so they're taking matters into their own hands. The main launch of Walsall Music May-hem will be on 1 May at Hednesford Ex Servicemen's Club.
