Artwork offers vibrant welcome at city station

Milton Keynes has just unveiled a vibrant new artwork outside its main railway station, designed to greet visitors with color and creativity. The piece, called 'Walk With Your Dreams,' was created by British Nigerian artist Yinka Ilori. The artwork is a large circle on the ground, filled with bright colors like yellow, lime green, fuschia pink, and blue. Two red-and-white striped walkways lead from the circle to the underpasses, helping guide pedestrians toward the city center. Around the circle, tall trees and flagpoles with different flags add to the lively atmosphere, while big grass squares on either side make the area feel open and welcoming.

The goal of the artwork is to make people feel welcome as soon as they arrive in Milton Keynes. Councillor Shanika Mahendran said that the installation is more than just a beautiful piece of art; it is a celebration of the city's creativity and diversity. Yinka Ilori, who has also created public art in cities like Helsinki and New York, said that Milton Keynes is a perfect place for his work because of its thriving Nigerian community and growing arts scene. He believes that art should be accessible to everyone and help bring people together.

The project was commissioned by the Milton Keynes Development Partnership and the city council. As part of the project, new plants were added around the station to increase biodiversity and make the area more attractive. The hope is that the artwork will leave a strong impression on visitors and make them feel inspired. The station building itself is modern and shiny, reflecting the trees and the colorful artwork outside. The unveiling event featured performances by local musicians, poets, and dancers, showing off the city's creative spirit. Nicola Sawford, chair of the development partnership, said that the new artwork and other plans for the area will give local people public spaces they can be proud of and help create a strong first impression for the growing city.
