Artist hosts exhibition after flooding destruction
Jayne Gaze, a talented artist, is hosting a free exhibition to display her artwork that reflects her experiences with a devastating flood in Spain. This flood had a significant impact on her life, leaving her unable to paint for three years. Jayne lived in Spain for nearly a decade, and in 2019, a flood destroyed all of her artwork and her art studio, which was a place where she created her pieces. The loss was immense, but it also inspired her to create new works that express her feelings and memories related to that traumatic event. nnOver the past two years, Jayne has poured her heart into creating more than 40 paintings. Each piece is a reflection of her emotions, sounds, and memories connected to the flood. She explained, 'It’s trying to make a positive out of a negative - I allowed myself to just work intuitively and explore these personal feelings. ' This statement highlights her journey of turning a painful experience into something beautiful and meaningful. Some of her artwork even includes bandages, symbolizing emotional injuries and the healing process that follows. Jayne sees her art as a way to excavate and examine her buried feelings, making each piece a personal treasure. nnIn addition to being an artist, Jayne has a background in working with the NHS, where she was involved in projects that used art as a therapeutic tool for individuals with mental health challenges or those living with dementia. This experience has influenced her approach to art and healing. Her exhibition, titled Innerscapes, will be held at the Artery Studios in Worcester from September 7 to September 16. This exhibition is not just about showcasing her art; it is also about sharing her story and the journey of recovery through creativity.
