Clay 1A: Ipswich’s Waterfront Gets a Fun New Clay-tastic Makeover!

Ipswich is getting ready for an exciting new attraction called Clay 1A, which is set to open in 2028 at Waterfront House. This building has a long history, as it was once a grain store in the 1800s and later became offices in the 1980s. Now, it will be transformed into a creative space where people can explore the many ways clay is used in everyday life. Visitors will see all kinds of objects made from clay, such as teacups, saucers, and plates that look like they have breakfast foods on them, including bacon, mushrooms, and beans. There will also be bricks, pipes, and beautiful decorative pieces on display.

The idea behind Clay 1A is to show how important clay is in our daily lives. The attraction will not only display common items like crockery and cooking pots but also feature artistic and creative works made from clay. The project is being made possible thanks to a generous £20 million donation from a local philanthropist, along with an extra £2. 28 million from Ipswich Borough Council. The council says that the funding will help restore the old Waterfront House and turn it into a welcoming place for everyone. People of all ages will be able to visit, learn about clay, and even take part in hands-on activities where they can make their own clay creations.

Neil MacDonald, the leader of Ipswich Borough Council, is excited about the project. He believes that Clay 1A will help bring new life to the waterfront area, create jobs, support education, and encourage more people to visit Ipswich. The restoration work is being led by Baylight Properties, and their chief executive, Crispin Kelly, says they want to create something lasting and meaningful for the town. The council hopes that thousands of people will come to Clay 1A when it opens, and that the displays and events will inspire visitors to use their imagination and learn more about the world of clay.
