Hong Kong care facility for disabled people to open this month, as government pledges to increase subsidised service spots
Hong Kong's welfare authorities have made a commitment to increase the number of subsidised service spots for individuals with disabilities over the next five years. The aim is to reduce the waiting time and provide enhanced support. This initiative will be facilitated by the inauguration of the Siu Lam Integrated Rehabilitation Services Complex in Tuen Mun this month. This facility will be the city's largest for disabled individuals.
The complex will offer residential care for those who are severely physically and mentally disabled, moderately mentally disabled, and individuals recovering from mental illnesses. Additionally, it will provide day training and vocational rehabilitation services. The Siu Lam Integrated Rehabilitation Services Complex, located in the New Territories, took four years to construct and has a usable floor area exceeding 40,000 square metres.
The facility comprises seven units, offering 1,710 service spots - 1,150 for residential care and 560 for day training and vocational rehabilitation. The primary objective of this complex is to cater to the needs of individuals with disabilities, thereby addressing the community's requirements. The new facility is expected to reduce the waiting time for these services. The complex, which occupies the former site of the Siu Lam Hospital, took four years to construct and has a usable floor area exceeding 40,000 square metres.
