SpaceX Rockets Past Amazon to Land 5th Spot in Global Valuations!

Elon Musk's company SpaceX has just become the fifth most valuable company in the world, passing Amazon in value. This happened after SpaceX joined the Nasdaq stock exchange in New York, which is known for technology companies. Since then, SpaceX's share price has jumped by more than 50 percent, making the company worth about $2. 78 trillion. Amazon, which is owned by Jeff Bezos, is now worth about $2. 66 trillion. This is a big moment for SpaceX, which is famous for building rockets and sending satellites into space.

The rise in SpaceX's value also comes as the company announced it is buying Cursor, an artificial intelligence coding start-up, for $60 billion. Cursor is owned by a company called Anysphere and is known for using AI to help write computer code. SpaceX has been working with Cursor since April, and now it will own the company. SpaceX wants to use Cursor's technology to help with its own projects, like building better rockets and making its Starlink internet satellites smarter. The company is also trying to grow its own AI business, called xAI, which has created a chatbot named Grok.

Even though SpaceX is now worth more than Amazon, the two companies are very different. Amazon is a household name and makes a lot more money. In the first quarter of 2026, Amazon made $30. 3 billion in profit, while SpaceX lost $4. 3 billion. In 2025, Amazon had $716. 9 billion in sales, but SpaceX only had $18. 67 billion. Investors seem to be betting on what SpaceX could do in the future, not just what it is doing now. Some experts warn that only about 4 percent of SpaceX shares are available for the public to buy, which could make the price go down if big investors sell later. Still, many people are excited about SpaceX's plans to send data centers into space and maybe even help humans live on Mars. The deal to buy Cursor should be finished by the end of September, and Cursor's owners will get $60 billion worth of SpaceX shares.
