Lancaster Music Co-op Gears Up for a Rockin' Comeback with New Compilation!

Lancaster Music Co-op, a well-known community music studio in north Lancashire, is on the verge of reopening after being closed for several years. The co-op, which started in 1985, has been a hub for local musicians and has hosted famous names like Maximo Park's Tom English, Mark Hunter from James, and even The Prodigy. Unfortunately, the Lodge Street building was declared unsafe in 2021, forcing the co-op to shut its doors. However, thanks to a new compilation album featuring tracks donated by local artists, the co-op is now raising funds to complete major repairs and welcome musicians back.

The compilation album is a unique project that brings together 21 tracks from a variety of genres, including post-punk, indie folk, house music, and hardcore. Bands like Morton Betts and Dog Daisies, as well as young folk singer Matilda Walden, have all contributed songs. The album is available exclusively on the co-op's Bandcamp page, where supporters can donate money to help with renovations and buy new equipment for future users. The response from the music community has been overwhelming, with many artists eager to support the co-op's mission and keep the local music scene alive.

Derek Meins, a director at Lancaster Music Co-op, expressed his excitement about the progress made in 2025. He said that the renovation project has come a long way, thanks to grant funding and community support. Derek emphasized the importance of keeping the music community together, stating that the co-op would not exist without the people who use it. He also thanked every musician and band who donated a track to the compilation, noting that the submissions reflect the diversity of the local music scene.
