Epic Auction: World's Rarest Vinyl Records Hit the Spotlight!
A collection of some of the rarest music records in the world is about to be sold at an auction, according to Martin Hughes, a vinyl specialist and the director of Wessex Auction Rooms in Wiltshire. The records come from the personal collection of Tony Calder, a well-known artists and repertoire manager who worked with legendary musicians such as the Beatles and Rod Stewart. Martin Hughes, who is from Bristol, believes that this collection includes some of the most unique and hard-to-find records ever made.
The auction will feature a wide variety of items, including records that were never officially released, rare Beatles records, collectible David Bowie items, Pink Floyd test pressings, and promotional releases. Tony Calder played a key role in the music industry, especially as the Beatles' A&R manager. His job was to come up with strategies to make the Beatles' debut single a hit in dance halls and on the radio. Many of the records being auctioned were part of Calder's own record label, Immediate, which he started independently. Unfortunately, the label did not last long because it ran into financial problems soon after it was created.
One of the highlights of the auction is a record by Billy Nicholls called 'Would You Believe. ' This album was recorded in 1968 and was meant to be the UK's answer to the Beach Boys' famous album 'Pet Sounds. ' Only 100 copies of this album were ever made, and they were sent to radio stations, but it was never officially released because Immediate Records had financial difficulties. Billy Nicholls was discovered as a teenager by Andrew Loog Oldham, the co-founder of Immediate. The auction also includes a unique promotional pack for the Rolling Stones album 'Sticky Fingers,' which contains unused merchandise and lyric sheets. Martin Hughes estimates that this promo pack could be worth between 700 and 1,000 pounds, but it might sell for even more. In addition to these items, the auction will feature signed records, more Beatles rarities, David Bowie collectibles, Pink Floyd test pressings, and original pressings that cover the history of popular music. The auction is scheduled to begin at 10:00 BST.
