Ross Tiger Trawler Sails Back Into Action After Stunning Makeover!

The Ross Tiger, a famous old trawler, has reopened to visitors in Grimsby after a period of restoration. This ship is a key part of the Grimsby Fishing Heritage Centre, which celebrates the town's long history with the fishing industry. The Ross Tiger was first launched in 1957 and spent thirty years fishing in the cold Arctic waters. After its fishing days ended, it was used to help oil workers on the North Sea. Now, it is a museum ship, letting people see what life was like for the fishermen who worked on board.

The restoration work on the Ross Tiger was quite extensive. The entire ship was painted both inside and out, making it look fresh and well cared for. Workers also repaired and replaced parts of the mast and other equipment that had become worn out over the years. The ship's black hull, white and orange upper parts, and grey funnel with a white star now look bright and clean. Nautical flags fly from the main mast, and the Red Ensign flag is displayed at the stern, adding to the ship's impressive appearance.

After the Ross Tiger retired in 1991, North East Lincolnshire Council bought it for just one pound. They wanted to make sure the ship would be preserved as a symbol of Grimsby's fishing past. David Ornsby, the operations manager at the Fishing Heritage Centre, called the reopening a 'momentous occasion. ' He said the team was delighted to complete this important work in the ship's 70th year. Visitors can now take guided tours of the Ross Tiger, led by former trawlermen who share their stories and experiences. Tours are available six days a week, and tickets can be booked at the museum. The Ross Tiger stands as a reminder of Grimsby's proud fishing history and gives people a chance to learn about the hard work and adventures of those who sailed on her.
