Lapsus$: GTA 6 hacker handed indefinite hospital order
Arion Kurtaj, an 18-year-old hacker from Oxford with autism, was a key member of the international hacking group Lapsus$. The group's cyber-attacks on tech giants such as Uber, Nvidia, and Rockstar Games resulted in nearly $10 million in damages.
Kurtaj was sentenced to an indefinite hospital order after leaking clips of the upcoming Grand Theft Auto (GTA) game. The judge deemed Kurtaj a high risk to the public due to his skills and inclination towards cyber-crime. He will remain in a secure hospital indefinitely unless doctors determine he is no longer a threat.
While in custody, Kurtaj exhibited violent behavior, resulting in numerous reports of injury and property damage. Due to his severe autism, Kurtaj was deemed unfit to stand trial, and the jury was tasked with determining whether he committed the alleged acts, not whether he did so with criminal intent. Despite having his laptop confiscated, Kurtaj continued his hacking activities, breaching Rockstar's security using an Amazon Firestick, a hotel TV, and a mobile phone.
