Nepali Climbers Clear Ice Blockade, Everest Faces Summit Traffic Jam!

A team of expert Nepali climbers has successfully cleared a path to the summit of Mount Everest after a huge chunk of ice blocked the route for weeks. This year, the climbing window is shorter than usual, and hundreds of climbers and their guides were stuck at Everest Base Camp in Nepal, waiting for the path to open. The Nepali team managed to fix ropes and ladders over the dangerous ice early on Wednesday, allowing other climbers to start their journey to the top. However, experts are warning that there could be 'traffic jams' on the mountain because so many people will be climbing at the same time.

Almost 500 foreign climbers have received permits to climb Everest this year, and most of them will be climbing with at least one Nepali guide. This means that about 1,000 people will be heading for the summit in the next two weeks. Because the route was blocked for so long, many climbers are worried about safety. They have had less time to get used to the high altitude, and now everyone will be trying to reach the top in a short period. Some climbers, like Purnima Shrestha, who is trying to reach the summit for the sixth time, have said that the delay has made things more dangerous.

The climbing season on Everest usually lasts from late April to the end of May, but this year, a large and unstable piece of ice called a serac blocked the way from Base Camp to the summit. The Nepali guides worked hard to clear the path, but bad weather made it difficult to fix ropes all the way to the top. China has also closed the northern route up Everest, so even more climbers are using the southern route in Nepal. Authorities and expedition operators are now working together to space out the climbs and avoid overcrowding. There are about 2,000 people at Base Camp, including climbers for other mountains. Sadly, three people have died on Everest in the past two weeks, showing how dangerous the climb can be. Even though the cost of a climbing permit has gone up to $15,000, more people than ever want to try to reach the top of the world.
