AI-Powered Plants Steal the Show at Chelsea Flower Festival!

A new and exciting plant exhibit called RoboCrops has won a Silver Gilt medal at the famous Chelsea Flower Show. This exhibit was created by the University of Lincoln and is all about using robotics, plant science, and artificial intelligence to help plants grow better. The RoboCrops display shows how technology can be used to check a plant’s health, growth, and structure. It can even spot signs of stress or disease that people cannot see with their own eyes. The exhibit attracted a lot of attention from visitors, including the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, who stopped by to learn more about the project.

The RoboCrops exhibit was set up in the GreenSTEM zone at the flower show, which is an area focused on science and technology in gardening. The display featured a green plant with long, pointy leaves in a white pot. Cameras and tubes were set up around the plant to monitor it closely. There was also a black screen showing images of the plant and information about what the technology was doing. On the wall, there were sketches of plants and labels explaining the science behind the project. Professor Simon Pearson, the founding director of the University of Lincoln’s Institute for Agri-Food Technology, said that one of the best parts of the week was seeing how interested visitors were in the RoboCrops project. He noticed that many young people were especially curious about how robotics and artificial intelligence could help with growing plants and producing food. Professor Pearson believes that this kind of technology could solve some of the biggest challenges in horticulture and farming. The RoboCrops team hopes their work will inspire more people to think about how science and technology can be used to improve the way we grow plants and food. Winning an award at the Chelsea Flower Show is a big achievement for the University of Lincoln and shows that their work is making a difference.
