Kainos Defies AI Fears, Gears Up to Hire 200 New Graduates!

Kainos, the largest software company in Northern Ireland, is planning to hire even more graduates this year, despite growing concerns that Artificial Intelligence, or AI, could be taking over jobs in the tech industry. Brendan Mooney, the chief executive of Kainos, explained that he does not believe large companies will simply use AI to create their own software and stop needing companies like Kainos. He thinks AI can be useful for solving certain problems in a business, but it is not easy to use AI for everything, especially in big organizations.

Kainos has had a strong year, with sales rising by 17 percent to 431 million pounds and pre-tax profits increasing by 2 percent to 67 million pounds. The company’s workforce also grew, going from 2,800 to 3,200 employees. This includes about 120 people from a Canadian company that Kainos recently acquired. Last year, Kainos hired 130 graduates, and this year, they plan to bring in 200 more. Mooney says that while some people are worried about AI replacing jobs, he believes there will still be a need for skilled workers, especially those who can help companies use new technology in smart ways.

Kainos operates in the Software as a Service, or SaaS, industry. SaaS means that customers use software over the internet and pay a subscription fee, instead of buying the software outright. This model has been popular for about 15 years and has made software companies attractive to investors because it brings in steady income. However, in the past year, the value of many software companies has dropped because people are worried that AI could disrupt the SaaS model. Some fear that companies will use AI to replace workers or even create their own software, which could mean fewer subscriptions. This worry has been called the 'SaaSpocalypse. ' But Mooney and other industry leaders say these fears are exaggerated. They point out that it is very difficult to use AI across a whole company while keeping everything secure and working together. Kainos has seen its revenue from AI and data projects grow by 11 percent, reaching almost 46 million pounds. The company plans to double the size of its 'Responsible AI' team, which helps other organizations use AI safely and effectively.
