Self-Taught Chef Whips Up Victory on MasterChef: The Professionals!
Gareth Baty, a self-taught chef from Carlisle, has won the latest season of MasterChef: The Professionals, a popular BBC cooking competition. Gareth now lives in Greater Manchester and was one of 32 chefs who competed in the show. After many rounds of tough cooking challenges, only three chefs made it to the final: Luke Emmess, Mark O'Brien, and Gareth Baty. All three finalists wore their white chef jackets and black trousers as they stood together on the MasterChef set, ready to face the judges. The judges for this season were Monica Galetti, Marcus Wareing, and Matt Tebbutt, all well-known chefs with lots of experience.
For the final, Gareth created a three-course menu that was inspired by his family. His starter was a langoustine and green apple tartare with a kefir and caviar sauce and tomato powder, which he dedicated to his mother. The main course was a chicken breast roulade wrapped in truffle mousse, served with king oyster mushrooms and chips, inspired by his late father. For dessert, Gareth made a creative twist on the Brandy Alexander cocktail, as a tribute to his wife's family. The judges were very impressed with his menu. Monica Galetti called his dishes 'faultless,' and Marcus Wareing said Gareth's food was full of flavor and made with heart. New judge Matt Tebbutt said Gareth deserved to win because he cooks with love and passion.
Gareth said that winning the competition was 'out of this world. ' He explained that he learned to cook from his mother, Barbara, and that everything he knows about food started in her kitchen. He believes that cooking for others is a generous act and that you can make people feel cared for through food. Before joining MasterChef, Gareth hosted supper clubs in his East London flat, worked in restaurants in New York, and cooked on a farm in Cumbria. Now, he runs his own private dining business called The Wandering Cumbrian. Gareth has a wife, Katherine, and two children. He admitted that being self-taught sometimes made him doubt his skills, but standing with the other finalists made him feel proud. Gareth hopes that winning MasterChef is just the beginning of his journey and is grateful for all the kind messages he has received from supporters.
