Nicolas Cage's ex sues him over their son's alleged attack

Nicolas Cage, a well-known Hollywood actor, is facing a lawsuit from his ex-girlfriend, Christina Fulton, who claims she suffered serious injuries during an alleged attack by their son, Weston Cage. Christina, who is 57 years old, describes Weston, her 34-year-old son, as a '300-pound professional fighter' and accuses him of attacking her without any provocation last year. In her lawsuit, she is seeking damages for what she calls 'catastrophic physical, emotional, and economic harm' resulting from the alleged assault. Nicolas Cage, who is 61, is also named in the lawsuit for negligence, as Christina claims he failed to prevent Weston’s behavior. Nicolas Cage's legal team has dismissed the lawsuit as 'frivolous. ' Last June, Weston was arrested and charged with two felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon after accusations that he attacked both his mother and another person. He has pleaded not guilty to these charges. According to the civil complaint filed in the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Christina states that she visited Weston on April 28, 2024, after receiving urgent messages from his friends. Upon her arrival, she alleges that Weston attacked her in a 'manic rage' in various locations, including the parking lot, elevator, and lobby of his apartment building. Christina claims that the attack left her with a concussion, multiple bruises, neck and throat injuries, dental trauma, tinnitus, abdominal trauma, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Christina also alleges that Nicolas Cage was aware of Weston’s long history of mental health issues and previous violent behavior but continued to support him financially. She claims that Nicolas bought an apartment for Weston right next to his own home, bailed him out of jail several times, and even drank alcohol with him, despite knowing about his struggles with substance abuse. In a statement to the BBC, Nicolas Cage's lawyer, Brian Wolf, argued that the lawsuit is 'absurd,' stating that 'Weston Coppola is a 34-year-old man' and that Nicolas does not control his son's actions. Weston’s lawyer, Michael A Goldstein, expressed that Christina's decision to sue her own son is not surprising, given her history of legal disputes with family members. He described the lawsuit as a 'money grab and call for attention. ' Christina informed the responding LAPD officers that Weston was experiencing a mental health crisis at the time of the incident. Joseph Farzam, the attorney representing Christina, acknowledged that while most parents are not responsible for their adult children's actions, the law can hold a parent accountable if their adult child has a mental disability and cannot care for themselves. He emphasized that this situation is unique, as Weston has a history of violence, and Nicolas has not intervened but rather enabled his behavior. Christina and Nicolas were in a relationship from 1988 to 1991, and she previously sued him in 2009 over a financial dispute, claiming he owed her $13 million and failed to fulfill a promise to buy her a home. That case was settled in 2011. Weston Cage has faced legal troubles in the past, including being arrested for domestic violence in 2011 and for driving under the influence in 2017, for which he received probation and was required to attend a recovery program.
