Meet the Artist Crafting Tiny Sculptures Smaller Than a Blood Cell!

David A Lindon, a micro artist from Bournemouth in Dorset, has once again amazed the world with his latest creation, The Yellow Smiley Face. This sculpture is so tiny that it is invisible to the human eye, measuring only 11. 037 by 12. 330 microns. To help people understand just how small this is, David explains that it is about the same size as a human blood cell, a mold spore, a piece of talcum powder, or even a droplet of fog. The artwork is placed on a first-class stamp, specifically on a micro dot located on the eye of the late Queen Elizabeth II.

David is no stranger to breaking records. His previous record was for the smallest handmade sculpture, a Red Lego Brick, which was already four times smaller than the record before it. The Red Lego Brick measured just 0. 02517mm by 0. 02184mm. Now, The Yellow Smiley Face is half the size of that tiny brick. David has earned 12 Guinness World Records for his miniature art, including a sculpture on a watch mechanism that sold for £90,000. He has also created unique animals, such as a blue whale and a peacock butterfly, all crafted within the eye of a needle.

David jokes that he might be a bit bonkers for making such tiny art, but he is proud of his achievements. The stamp where The Yellow Smiley Face lives is mounted on a glass tower and kept inside a sealed glass box to protect it. He is grateful to Dr Sarah Elliott and Jack Rose from Bournemouth University for helping measure his new world record. David also made a micro sculpture of a graduation certificate being held by a student's hand, which is less than a millimeter wide and set on a solid gold plinth. He plans to gift this artwork to Bournemouth University to inspire future generations of students. David's work shows that even the smallest pieces of art can have a big impact and bring joy to people.
