'I went on I Kissed a Boy for my younger self'

Jordan Burrow, a 26-year-old man from the Lake District, recently appeared on the second series of the BBC Three show I Kissed a Boy. The show features gay men who are matched up and greet each other with a first kiss. Jordan’s decision to join the show was deeply personal. Growing up on a farm in a small village, he rarely saw other gay people and often felt isolated. He explained that being the only gay person in his village made it difficult to understand his own feelings. Jordan hoped that by sharing his story on television, he could help his younger self and others who might be going through similar experiences.

Jordan described his childhood as a time when he struggled to come to terms with his sexuality. He said that about ten years ago, in the Lake District, there were very few openly gay people, which made it hard for him to find role models or support. He believes that if shows like I Kissed a Boy had existed when he was younger, he might have understood himself better and felt less alone. Jordan’s background is unique because he grew up in a farming community, which is not often represented in stories about gay people. This made his journey even more challenging but also gave him a special story to tell.

After moving to Manchester at the age of 21 following a breakup, Jordan found a more accepting environment and a brighter outlook on life. He said that the experience of being on the show changed him a lot. He cried and learned a great deal about himself. Jordan said that if his younger self could see who he is now, he would be amazed. Through his participation in I Kissed a Boy, Jordan hopes to inspire others to embrace their true selves and to show that it is possible to find happiness and acceptance, no matter where you come from.
