Rural Shropshire Gets a Gigabit Boost: Faster Internet is Here!
Residents in rural areas of Shropshire are set to benefit from much faster internet connections, thanks to a new government initiative. The UK government has started rolling out full-fibre broadband in several small towns and villages as part of its Project Gigabit programme. The work has already begun in places like Much Wenlock, Six Ashes, Coton, Bridgnorth, Quatt, Quatford, Cantern Bank, Eardington, and Oldbury. The company Openreach is responsible for installing the new fibre optic cables, which will allow about 12,000 households to connect multiple devices at gigabit-capable speeds by the year 2030.
The government has invested heavily in this project, signing contracts worth 745 million pounds with Openreach. This investment is not just for Shropshire, but is part of a larger plan to improve internet access for more than 297,000 homes and businesses across the UK. The goal is to make sure that people living in rural and remote areas have the same opportunities as those in cities when it comes to using the internet. With faster broadband, families will be able to stream movies and shows together without buffering, farmers can use new technology to help with their work, and local businesses can reach more customers online.
UK telecoms minister Liz Lloyd said that the upgrade will create real opportunities for communities across Shropshire. She believes that better internet will help people in many ways, from education to entertainment to running a business. The project is expected to make a big difference in the daily lives of people living in these rural areas. By 2030, thousands of homes in Shropshire and beyond will have access to some of the fastest internet speeds available, helping to close the digital gap between rural and urban communities.
