From Foster Care to Center Stage: Diogo's Voice UK Triumph

Diogo Ferreira is a 28-year-old singer living in Bristol who recently made it through the blind auditions on The Voice UK. His journey to the stage was not easy. Born in Portugal, Diogo moved to England with his father after a car accident on his eighth birthday. Not long after, he was placed in foster care, where he spent part of his childhood. Diogo has said that while he always had a roof over his head, he did not feel the love of a family growing up. Despite these challenges, he never gave up on his dream of becoming a musician.

Diogo began singing in secondary school and would often busk in different cities around the country. He did not have formal singing lessons but practiced on his own. Later, he studied for a vocal degree at university. His big break came when a scout from The Voice UK saw one of his singing videos online and invited him to audition. At first, Diogo thought the message was a scam, but he decided to go for it. During his audition, all four celebrity judges turned their chairs, which meant they all wanted him on their team. Diogo chose Will. i. am as his mentor and dedicated his performance to the idea of finding love.

Diogo described being on The Voice UK as a 'pinch me' moment, something he could hardly believe was happening. His partner Chelsea watched from backstage and said she was even more nervous than he was. She felt a huge sense of relief when all four judges turned their chairs. Outside of music, Diogo works as a youth worker at Project 224 in South Bristol, supporting children in the city. He was inspired to become a youth worker because of the positive influence a youth worker had on him during his time in foster care. Diogo wants to be a role model for young people and help them become the best versions of themselves. He believes that his difficult past has made him stronger and more appreciative of the small things in life. Diogo will next appear in the battle stage of The Voice UK, continuing his journey as both a singer and a mentor to others.
