France police shoot woman in Paris train station after bomb threat

On Tuesday, a woman in Paris, France, was shot by the police at a train station. She had been making threats and expressing support for terrorism on a suburban train heading towards the city. This incident is the latest in a series of security concerns in France, which has been on high alert since a fatal stabbing at a school on October 13, attributed to an Islamic extremist.

The woman was intercepted by officers at a Metro and suburban train station in eastern Paris, near the François Mitterrand national library. The police fired a single shot, seriously injuring her. She was immediately taken to the hospital for emergency treatment. Despite her threats, no explosive device was found on her person, as reported by the newspaper Le Parisien, citing police sources.

The woman had shouted 'God is great' in Arabic and used threatening phrases such as 'You're all going to get it' and 'Boom', according to Paris police chief Laurent Nunez. The prosecutor’s office stated that the woman could face charges for making death threats, defending terrorism, and intimidating the police. She was dressed in an abaya, a long robe typically worn by Muslims. The police are currently verifying her identity. She did not have any identification on her, but it is believed that she had been previously arrested for threatening behaviour in 2021 and subsequently hospitalised for mental health issues.
