Lisa Molloy, a devoted fan of the British sitcom Gavin and Stacey, recently experienced a dream come true when she and her husband Chris purchased the iconic home of Doris, one of the show's most memorable characters. The Molloy family, who have watched Gavin and Stacey together since its debut in 2008, were thrilled to discover that Doris's house, located at 45 Trinity Street in Barry Island, was up for sale. Lisa described her reaction as 'surreal,' saying she had to do a double take when she saw the listing online. Without hesitation, Lisa and Chris traveled 130 miles from their home in Tamworth, Staffordshire, to view the property. They were the first to see the house and quickly made an offer, sealing the deal within 48 hours. The couple paid just over the asking price of £220,000 for the two-bedroom terraced house. To preserve the home's connection to the show, they also paid extra to keep the original furniture and decorations, including the curtains, cushions, and wallpaper, ensuring the house remained as fans remembered it from the series. Lisa expressed her excitement, saying, 'We're massive fans and feel very privileged and honored to own it. ' She added that owning the original furniture was the 'cherry on top of the cake. ' The Molloys, who have three children, now own a piece of British TV history. Doris, played by actress Margaret John, was known for her cheeky personality and memorable one-liners, especially her refusal to make salad for Neil the Baby's christening. In the show, Doris was a neighbor to Gwen and Stacey and left her house to Gavin and Stacey in her will. Margaret John passed away in 2011, but her character remains beloved by fans. Lisa said her family is 'in awe' of the home, which featured prominently in the series. She admitted she never thought they would have the chance to view, let alone buy, the house. By purchasing the fixtures from the show, the family plans to maintain the home's character and has even collected the paint codes for future touch-ups. The kitchen has been updated with new cabinets, fulfilling a wish made by Stacey's character in the Christmas special six years ago. The house sleeps five people, with one double bedroom and another room with three beds. Lisa explained that they bought the house for their eldest daughter, a huge fan of the show, but will use it as a holiday rental until she finishes her studies. The main bedroom still features the dressing table seen in scenes with Joanna Page and Matthew Horne. Although the second bedroom was never shown on TV, the family created a door sign as a tribute to the characters. Lisa said it's hard to believe the actors have been in their home, recalling moments like, 'Oh my god, Larry Lamb has sat on this sofa. ' The living room, which was heavily featured in the 2019 Christmas special, remains largely unchanged, with its fireplace, grey sofa, and orange armchair. The walls are painted a pale green, and a round mirror hangs above the fireplace. The sale of Doris's house has attracted attention from fans, with many stopping by to take selfies, peek through the windows, and linger outside. Some see the sale as marking the end of the show, but Lisa insists the Gavin and Stacey fandom is still 'buzzing. ' She enjoys the interest and excitement that comes with owning such a famous house. Lisa and her family have always felt at home in Barry Island, appreciating the friendly community, the beach, and their favorite cafe, Marco's, which also appeared in the show.
