Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle has become a huge hit in cinemas around the world, surprising even its lead voice actor, Zach Aguilar. Zach, who voices the main character Tanjiro Kamado in the English version, told BBC Newsbeat that the film's success is 'mind-blowing. ' The movie is based on a manga series from 2016 and is the first part of a trilogy that wraps up the story from the popular animated TV series that started in 2019. The story follows Tanjiro, a teenager who joins a group of demon hunters after his sister is turned into a demon. Zach says that Demon Slayer has become a 'pop culture phenomenon,' and the numbers prove it. Since its release, Infinity Castle has earned over $600 million at the global box office, beating out big movies like Mission Impossible and Fantastic Four in this year's top ten. It reached the number one spot in its first week in both Japan and the United States, and in the UK, it was only kept from the top by Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale. Zach, who is 27 and has voiced characters in many video games and anime series, believes that anime is finally becoming mainstream. He thinks Infinity Castle is the title that pushed anime into the spotlight. 'It's so cool to see anime become this mainstream thing, and Demon Slayer is the backbone of that,' he said. Zach and other voice actors attended the movie's premiere in Los Angeles, where the atmosphere was festive and full of excitement. Rahul Purini, president of Crunchyroll, a streaming service for anime, said that anime is one of the fastest-growing entertainment sectors in the world. He explained that anime's popularity comes from its many sub-genres and unique styles. 'Anime is authentically created in Japan,' he said. 'It has stunning visuals, strong characters, and unique storytelling set in amazing worlds. That's what attracts fans. ' Crunchyroll estimates that there are 1. 5 billion 'anime-curious' fans worldwide, and it's easier than ever for people to watch anime thanks to streaming services like Crunchyroll and Netflix. Zach says he is a 'lover of the story' of Demon Slayer. He admits that playing Tanjiro is challenging because the character goes through so much pain and hardship. Zach tries to use his own experiences to make Tanjiro's emotions feel real. 'Sometimes I feel like I'm physically going through that pain,' he said. Demon Slayer is made in Japan and originally recorded by Japanese actors. Zach says that dubbing the show in English can be difficult, especially when matching his voice to the animation. For example, if a scream in the animation lasts exactly ten seconds, his scream has to match that timing perfectly. If it's too long, he has to redo it. Voice actors usually record their lines alone, so Zach has to imagine what the other characters are doing in each scene to make his own lines sound natural and emotional. 'It's a niche skill, having that imagination,' he said. 'You don't get to be on a set with props and other actors. You have to imagine the world in your head. ' Zach's love for anime led him to voice acting, and he hopes the success of Infinity Castle will inspire more people to explore the genre. 'You have to give anime a shot. You don't know what you're missing,' he said. 'It has some of the greatest storytelling I've ever experienced. ' Zach is already signed up for the next two parts of the Demon Slayer trilogy. He says the first movie has amazed him, and he can't wait to see what happens in the second and third films. 'It's only going to get bigger and bigger from here,' he said. Demon Slayer's success shows how much anime has grown and how many people are excited to see what comes next.

The movie's impact is clear, with fans around the world eagerly awaiting the next chapters in Tanjiro's journey.

Zach Aguilar and the rest of the cast are proud to be part of a story that has touched so many people and helped bring anime into the mainstream.
