AI Magic Brings Back Yvonne's Voice and Spark to Life!

Yvonne Johnson, a lively and cheerful woman from north London, has always been known for her big personality and love of talking. Nearly six years ago, she was diagnosed with motor neurone disease, or MND, a serious illness that weakens muscles and makes it hard to move and speak. For Yvonne, losing her voice was the hardest part. She felt like she lost a part of who she was, and her family noticed that things were not the same without her voice filling the room. Her husband Orville said it felt like her true self was slowly being taken away.

But thanks to new technology, Yvonne has found a way to speak again. An American company called ElevenLabs used old voice messages, videos, and voicemails to create an artificial intelligence version of her voice. Now, Yvonne can use a device to talk in her own voice, even though she cannot speak naturally anymore. Her daughter Kayla was amazed when she first heard the AI voice, saying it sounded just like her mum and brought back memories of how she used to be. The family was especially touched when Yvonne used her AI voice to renew her wedding vows with Orville on their 25th anniversary. It was a special moment that made everyone feel like Yvonne was truly there.

Yvonne’s story does not end there. She worked with artist Sara Pope, who painted a portrait of Yvonne’s smile as part of a project called Portrait of a Voice. The painting was auctioned to raise money for a charity that supports research for MND. Since getting her AI voice, Yvonne has traveled to places like Berlin, Zurich, California, and Aberdeen to share her experience and raise awareness about MND. She feels honored to speak at events and hopes her story will help others who have lost their voices. Yvonne says the technology is incredible because it keeps her voice and personality alive, and her family agrees that it has brought her spirit back into their lives.
