Artist Turns Entire Home Into a Colorful, Whimsical Masterpiece

Emily Powell, an artist from Devon, has transformed her entire home into a vibrant work of art. Over the past decade, she has hand-painted every surface in her house, from the walls and ceilings to the light switches, fridge, and even the toilet. Emily is known for her colorful and lively paintings, and she decided to bring that same energy into her own living space. She calls her project 'The Art of the Living,' and this week, she opened her home to a small group of visitors who bought tickets to see her unique creation. Each room in Emily's house has its own theme and story. The dining room is decorated with paintings of Delftware pottery, inspired by her time in Holland. The walls are pink, and the table is set with flowers and cake, creating a cheerful atmosphere. The living room is painted a deep red, with flowers on the walls and a large painting leaning against one side. Emily chose red to make the room feel warm and inviting. The master bedroom is covered in bright pink flowers, a nod to her visit to Scotland. The hallway is especially eye-catching, with green and pink stairs and birds painted on the walls and ceiling, giving the impression that they are flying upstairs.

Emily says that color is very important to her, and she picks the colors in each room based on how she wants her family to feel. For example, the playroom is filled with circus animals in party hats, making it a fun and playful space for her daughter. The kitchen features Dutch-inspired cups and plates painted on the walls and fridge, and a fig tree is painted on the hallway ceiling. Emily's husband, Jack, admits that the painted floors can make it hard to spot their daughter's toys, and sometimes they accidentally lean against wet paint. He jokes that there is paint on almost everything in the house, even their toothbrushes. The open house event was so popular that it sold out, with a waiting list of 500 people. Some visitors traveled from as far as the United States to see Emily's home. Now that she has run out of surfaces to paint, Emily plans to sell the house and start a new creative project in a different home.
