Adolescence Studios Now Powering Their Own Degree Courses—Creativity Unleashed!
Production Park, located in South Kirkby near Wakefield, is a well-known creative center that has hosted some of the world’s biggest music stars, including Lady Gaga, Beyonce, and Coldplay, as they prepared for their global tours. It is also the filming location for popular shows like Netflix’s Adolescence and the singing competition The Voice. Recently, Production Park received what many are calling 'game-changing' powers from the Office for Students, the education regulator. These new powers allow the center to run its own degree courses, which were previously managed by the University of Greater Manchester.
Adrian Brooks, the founder of Production Park, explained that the music and TV industry changes quickly, so it is important for their courses to keep up with new trends and technology. Studio 1 at Production Park is Europe’s first arena-sized rehearsal studio, built in 2005, and Studio 5 was used to build important sets for the show Adolescence, like the police station and young offenders institute. The Academy of Live Technology, which is based at Production Park, was launched in 2011 and offers both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, as well as short courses and special training programs. Rachel Nicholson, the head of the academy, said that being able to design their own courses means they can make sure students learn exactly what the industry needs.
Students are also excited about the changes. Jasmine James, a third-year student studying live visual design and production, said it is great to have creative courses in Yorkshire, since most big studios are in London or Manchester. Nick Gunby, another student, believes that the new degree powers will help more people find jobs in the creative industry. The creative sector is very important to the region, providing about 48,000 jobs and adding £2. 3 billion to the local economy. Regional leaders have a plan to grow this even more, hoping to reach £4. 1 billion by 2035. With these new degree powers, Production Park hopes to help even more students start successful careers in music, TV, and live events.
