The festival will take place at Herrington Country Park from May 22 to May 24, 2026, marking its first appearance in Sunderland since 2005. Frankie Francis, who is the Sunderland Music City officer and also the lead singer of Frankie and the Heartstrings, expressed how important this festival is for the region. He said, 'It's amazing, it's transformative, it's generational. ' According to him, the festival is a unique opportunity for musicians from the north-east of England to showcase their skills and creativity. Next year, around 100 artists are expected to perform, ranging from global superstars to up-and-coming acts. Back in 2005, the festival featured big names like the Foo Fighters, The Black Eyed Peas, and Gwen Stefani. Frankie Francis added, 'The best in the business will be coming once again, and the background is going to be Penshaw monument once again. '

The excitement is shared by many people in Sunderland. Sue Hodge, 48, from Castletown, told BBC Radio Newcastle, 'I think it's brilliant for the city as it's going to bring some huge artists up here that might not have come up before. ' Lucy Shannon, 46, said she thought the event looked amazing last time, but she missed out on getting a ticket. She hopes to be luckier this time. Ross Millard, a member of the Sunderland band The Futureheads, played at the festival in 2005 just as their debut album was gaining popularity. He recalled how the weather changed from sleet to rain to sunshine all in one day, making the experience even more memorable. 'There weren't many great opportunities to play a big homecoming show,' he said. 'To be part of this enormously special event, that you know is only going to come around, well, once in every 20 years, it was really magic. '
