Rocking Health Awareness: Bikini Tune Sparks Magical Street Jam

Ashleigh Harley, a 27-year-old campaigner from Luston, Herefordshire, had a remarkable day when she performed the classic 1960s song 'Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polkadot Bikini' outside Downing Street. She was joined by Brian Hyland, the original singer of the hit song, who is now 82 years old. The performance was not just for fun; it was part of Ashleigh's campaign to raise awareness about Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, a condition she has that affects her connective tissues and causes her joints to dislocate. Ashleigh was diagnosed with this condition in 2020 after many years of searching for answers and trying different treatments through the NHS.

The event attracted a large crowd, with hundreds of people coming to watch and join in. Ashleigh described the day as magical, saying that everyone was singing and dancing together in the street. There were even children with the same illness present, which made the event even more meaningful for her. At one point, the police arrived, but instead of stopping the event, they became supportive and helped keep things running smoothly. Ashleigh wore a yellow polka dot bikini with a brown leather jacket, matching the theme of the song, and she held a black and white electric guitar.

Ashleigh's performance was also a way to raise money for her charity, Save Our Lives. She released her own version of the famous song to help fund the charity's work. Brian Hyland said he was moved by Ashleigh's story and wanted to help because he learned that many people with rare conditions are misdiagnosed or wait years for a proper diagnosis. Ashleigh hopes her charity can develop a new tool to help doctors diagnose complex conditions in young people more quickly. She believes that music can be a powerful way to bring attention to important health issues and unite people in support of a good cause.
