Strongest typhoon in a decade hits 'China's Hawaii'

Super Typhoon Yagi has struck Hainan Island, a well-known tourist destination in China, often referred to as 'China's Hawaii' due to its stunning beaches and vibrant resorts. This powerful storm is the most intense typhoon to hit the island in a decade, bringing with it devastating winds and torrential rain. Authorities have declared that all tourist attractions on Hainan Island will remain closed until further notice, as they prepare for the massive and destructive winds that are expected to accompany the storm. Hainan, known for its beautiful sandy beaches and luxury accommodations, has been a popular destination for both domestic and international tourists. The main bridge connecting Hong Kong with Macau and Zhuhai in Guangdong has also been closed as a precautionary measure. The region has been experiencing heavy rainfall and strong winds since Thursday, with weather authorities predicting that rainfall could reach up to 500 millimeters. Hainan has a history of typhoons, but only a small number of them have been classified as super typhoons. Reports indicate that Yagi is expected to be the strongest typhoon to impact the southern coast of China in the last ten years. After hitting Hainan, Yagi is projected to move towards northern Vietnam, where it is expected to weaken slightly before making landfall. Local authorities in Vietnam are preparing for the storm by evacuating tens of thousands of residents in the provinces of Hai Phong and Thai Binh. The military has mobilized around 460,000 personnel to assist in managing the storm's effects. Vietnam's deputy agriculture minister has cautioned that the storm could impact areas that are vital for the region's economic development.
