What a night in Glasto's 'Naughty Corner' looks like

Glastonbury Festival is one of the most famous music festivals in the world, and its nighttime scene is legendary. The so-called 'naughty corner' is where the real party happens after dark. There are two main ways to experience Glastonbury at night. You can either pick one night to go all out, staying up for hours and exploring as much as possible, or you can become almost nocturnal for the whole weekend, sleeping during the day and partying every night with friends. For this story, the writer chose to dedicate one night to the full after-dark experience.

The evening began with a set by Four Tet at the Woodsies stage, which was a great way to get into the festival mood. After that, the writer headed to Silver Hayes, Glastonbury's newest dance area. Silver Hayes was introduced in 2013 and has grown to include two massive stages: Levels and Lonely Hearts Club. At the Lonely Hearts Club, the electronic duo CamelPhat played their unique style of tech house music, drawing a huge crowd even though other big acts were performing at the same time.

Next up was Arcadia, one of the most visually stunning parts of Glastonbury. Originally built in 2007 and now a permanent fixture, Arcadia has become famous for its incredible light shows and pyrotechnics. The stage, which used to look like a giant spider, is now a huge dragonfly made from a repurposed Royal Navy helicopter. Australian DJ Sonny Fodera performed there, and he described it as one of the most amazing experiences of his life. The sound system and production were top-notch, and even though some people say the music isn't loud enough unless you're right at the front, the writer could still enjoy the music from further back.

After Arcadia, the writer and a friend made the long walk to the South East Corner, which is known for its creative and sometimes bizarre installations. The journey started with a stop at the Cabaret tent, where comedians James Acaster and Nish Kumar were surprisingly DJing together. This was just a warm-up for the main event: Shangri-La. This area is famous for its political and environmental art, and it was completely redesigned this year to make more space for festival-goers. Everywhere you looked, there was something interesting to see, from a mattress with plants growing out of it to a phone line that connects you to nature.

Katy B, a well-known dance vocalist, was excited to perform on the main stage at Shangri-La at four in the morning. She said that the expansion of the area shows that the festival organizers understand how popular dance music has become. She remembers when the dance section was just two tents, but now it's a huge part of the festival.

The South East Corner feels a bit like a theme park, with fun fair rides and techno music blasting from every direction. The crowd is incredibly diverse, with people in glittery outfits dancing next to others in football shirts. The writer noticed a long line for NYC Downlow, the festival's famous LGBT club, where even the singer Lorde was spotted enjoying herself. There was also a big wait to get into Temple, the main drum and bass tent.

The parties in the naughty corner go on until six in the morning, and with so much happening, it's hard to know when to call it a night. As the writer finally made their way back to camp, they stopped for one last dance at the Greenpeace stage, where a disco night was in full swing. Even as the sun was rising, people were still arriving, eager to make the most of every moment. With a break year coming up for the festival, the writer realized this might be their last trip to the naughty corner for a while, making the experience even more special.
