What began as a bit of sibling rivalry turned into a serious competition, and Erik ended up beating millions of other players to become the FPL champion. Erik put a lot of effort into his fantasy team. He created a detailed Excel sheet to track his players and their stats, sometimes spending four or five hours a day on it, especially in the final week of the season. He admitted that he spent more time on FPL than on his studies, even though he has an important exam coming up. Going into the last day of the season, Erik was 21 points ahead, but he managed to increase his lead to 38 points, thanks to a great performance from his captain, Bruno Fernandes. Erik said that winning FPL made him feel like a football expert, even though he doesn’t have any formal football education. He relied on his own analysis and understanding, not on any advanced computer tools.

Many FPL players now use Artificial Intelligence, or AI, to help them make decisions, but Erik chose not to. He wanted to trust his own judgment and sometimes made unusual choices, like picking defenders James Tarkowski and Marc Guéhi, and goalkeeper David Raya as his captain. Erik explained that AI tools don’t always consider important details, like when teams have nothing left to play for at the end of the season. He believes that being critical and thinking for yourself is important. As the FPL champion, Erik has won a seven-night trip in the UK, including VIP tickets to two Premier League games next season. He is especially excited to visit Everton’s new stadium, as he has never watched a Premier League game in person before. Erik plans to celebrate properly after his exams and wants to thank the players who helped him win, like Bournemouth’s Alex Scott.
