From No Keyboard to Standing Ovations: Mohammed's Musical Triumph

Mohammed Pourtajrishi is a talented young musician who moved to Suffolk, England, three years ago after fleeing Iran. When he first arrived in the UK, he faced many challenges. He lived in a small, temporary home and did not have a keyboard or piano to practise his music. Playing the piano had always been important to Mohammed, but now he had no way to continue his passion. He felt lost without music, which had been a safe and comforting part of his life since he was a child in Iran.

Fortunately, the local community heard about Mohammed’s situation. A social media post caught the attention of Ashton Jones, a local soul singer. Ashton decided to help by buying Mohammed an electric piano. This generous gift allowed Mohammed to practise again and gave him hope. Ashton said he was proud to be a small part of Mohammed’s journey, but he believed Mohammed’s achievements were due to his own talent and dedication.

With his new piano, Mohammed worked hard and soon earned a place in the Advanced Young Musicians programme at Snape Maltings, a well-known music centre in Suffolk. There, he was able to develop his skills and meet other talented musicians. Mohammed composed a powerful piece called '40 Days,' inspired by the struggles in his home country. He performed this piece at the Aldeburgh Festival, and the audience was deeply moved. The organisers of the music programme were thrilled with Mohammed’s success, saying it was exactly what they had hoped for when he joined.

Mohammed said that joining the music programme changed his life. He met new friends, learned new things, and was able to explore new artistic ideas. He believes that even small opportunities can lead to great things, so people should always try their best. Now, Mohammed has been invited to perform his music in London and has received a full scholarship to study Visual Arts and Performance at a college in Cambridge. He is proud of his achievements and excited for the future. Mohammed hopes to make people happy with his music and wants to help others, just as people helped him along his journey.
